Camp is a wonderful thing isn’t it? You probably have your own memories of going to different camps every summer as a kid. You remember the friends you made, games you played, and hopefully the impact it had on you for years to come. Camp is pretty special like that. It may only be a few days or a week of a kid’s summer, but it is definitely a memory maker.
We are hosting Camp Downtown this summer because we believe in camp. We believe it is an important and powerful time in kids’ summer and we want to make sure as many kids as possible are given such an opportunity. Just to give some more of our WHY behind Camp Downtown, here are some of the perks and reasons we believe Camp Downtown is important for kids.
#1 The Jesus Factor
It is not new information, or a new opinion, that teaching kids the ways of the Lord at a young age is so very important. As the Bible tells us,
Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
Truthfully parents invest A LOT in their kids. They invest their time, their love, their attention, their priorities, their money (can I get an amen?). Well, the BEST investment we can make in our kids is the investment of Jesus. Making it a priority that our kids spend time growing in knowledge and understanding of God. Sure, many things kids don’t understand. They may not be able to understand a lot of what the Bible teaches them, but the more knowledge they receive about God and His word, as they grow up, the more they will understand. They cannot understand what they have not been taught, and Camp Downtown has the priority of teaching kids about the Lord so that one day, whether now or later, they will understand more fully who God is and how much He loves them.
#2 The Parent Factor
Parents, Camp Downtown is for YOU TOO! We want to support you and help you not just in raising your kids to love God, but also in your sanity. Parenting is not easy and it is not for the faint of heart! Hosting Camp Downtown is one way believe we can serve you as the parent whether it be by pouring into your children, giving you a break from the kiddos, or giving you some ease knowing your kids are in a fun and safe environment while you are at work.
We wanted this camp to be affordable for you as a parent as well. For that reason we crunched the numbers and found all the breaks we could to be able to accommodate for each kid to only pay $40. With all the crazy parents have to manage through we wanted to help you stress less, relax more, and not worry. We hope Camp Downtown can help you mom and dad in that way.
#3 The Experience Factor
- a particular instance of personally encountering or undergoing something.
- the process or fact of personally observing, encountering, or undergoing something.
It is no secret that kids like to experience. They like to touch, explore, discover, and inquire of things THEMSELVES. You may be able to hear your kid’s voice saying, “No, I want to do it!” Yep. Sounds about right.
Camp Downtown is one of those experiences for kids to touch, create, discover, explore, ask questions, and figure some things out… not by themselves…. but for themselves. And that’s a big deal for them.
Sadly our kids experience too much too soon in many ways compared to how we parents and adults did at their age. They learn some things too early, while other things not early enough. But opportunities like camp allow for kids to experience things that will help shape their life and give them the tools to answer the questions they will inevitably ask down the road.
Camp is an opportunity for kids to make memories and build friendships. So many memories we have these days are merely a picture posted to the internet with a cute caption. Camp is an opportunity to make memories that will forever be written on the children’s minds and on their hearts. Kids are also in the perfect setting to make friends and learn how to build friendships… even when our friends don’t do what we want them to do.
We could probably include several more “perks” or reasons why camp is such a valuable thing for your kids’ life. You could probably list reasons of your own based on your personal experience. But bottom line, camp is special, it is important, and it is a great way to invest in your kiddos.
